*Italian Junior 2024, final for Danti and Piccinin*
The Italians return to the final of the Italian Junior 2024 thanks to
wonderful performances by Marco Danti and Simone Piccinin in the men’s doubles.
Final that Italy had missed in their home tournament since 2017, always
in the men’s doubles the two current Italians competing for the Olympics, Fabio
Caponio and Giovanni Toti conquered the silver.
Danti and Piccinin were perfect from the morning hitting threes
victories. The first success came against the Germans Felix Schutt and
Alexander Philipp Zhang with a double 21-18. The match, however, is simpler
subsequent which saw them prevail over the Estonians Rene Leeman and Rasmus
Talts. The semi-final against the Spaniards Adolfo Lopez and Ramon Rovira, heads
series number four on the scoreboard, crowned a day
unforgettable with two sets conducted optimally and won by 21-16;
21-19.
Tomorrow the Azzurri will challenge the Thais Sittisak Nadee and Chayapat
Piboon.
On the other scoreboards, Piccinin once again stood out as he pushed himself
until one step away from the medals reaching the quarter-finals. The blue one
in the men’s singles he defeated the Cypriot Kososis in two sets (21-13;
21-11) and then the Austrian Cheng (21-10; 21-15) before being stopped by
the number one seed on the scoreboard is the Dutch Karthikeyan (21-7; 21-9).
De Leon was stopped in the round of 16 after having
defeated the Spaniard Mario Rodriguez (21-14; 21-8) he surrendered in two sets
(21-18; 21-14) to the Chinese Taipei Lee Yu-Jui.
Quarterfinals also for Sofia Galimberti and Anna Hell in doubles
female. The Italians first eliminated the number seeds
four Hungarians Petra Hart and Zsofi Szabo in three sets (17-21; 21-14;
21-17) but then they were defeated in two sets (21-15; 21-7) by
Austrians Hanna Gillesberger and Chiara Rudolf. Finally we are in the round of 16
the path of the other blue duo formed by Ilaria Fornaciari was interrupted
and Sofia Protto overcome in two sets (21-8; 21-9) by the Thais
Utsanon/Wedler.
Another two of tomorrow’s five finals have already been defined. In doubles
mixed all-Thai challenge between Jambutim/Utsanon who will challenge
Sreepeaw/Wedler. In the women’s doubles there will still be Thailand with
Naphachanok Utsanon and Sabrina Sophita Wedler this time paired against
Swiss Gaelle Fux and Anic Metzger.
The Italian Junior 2024 is taking place under the patronage of Sport and Salute,
of CONI, of CIP, of the Municipality of Milan, of the Metropolitan City of
Milan, of the Defense General Staff, of the Fiamme Oro Sports Group,
of the Fiamme Azzurre Sports Group, of the Fiamme Gialle Sports Group, of
Aeronautica Militare Sports Center, with the patronage of the Region
Lombardy and with the support of Lab 3.11 (supplier of wheelchairs for
Para-Badminton), of the Institute for Sports Credit, of ActionAid, of
Sport City Foundation and Sport Senza Frontiere Onlus. Shuttle Sponsor
of the event is RSL. Alongside FIBa, the Main Sponsor Semeraro, a company
Italian with long experience in the furniture sector.
