Italian Biathlete Dorothea Wierer’s Future Uncertain as World Cup Approaches

“I’m going to give it my all for the next two weeks. When the World Cup is over, I will have time to think about the future,” said the 33-year-old Italian competitor in an interview with the sportnews.bz server.

However, Wierer already indicated some time ago that she was determined. And the fans suspect that this season should be the last for the three-time bronze medalist from the games under five rings. “I will reveal it at the end of the season,” she said in a recent interview with Corrie dello Sport.

The native of Bruneck did not have a good start to the season at all, she then missed the stops in Oberhof and Ruhpolding. Before the start of the year and during it, she was troubled by health problems, she complained of fatigue. The two-time World Cup winner (2018/19 and 2019/20) returned with 14th place in Antholz and silver in the mixed relay.

Before the start of the biathlon festival in the Vysočina Arena, however, she does not lack the desire to fight for solid results. “You don’t get in shape as quickly if you’re sick for a long time. You need to be a realist,” he inhibits excessive optimism, although he admits that he already feels much better than at the start of the season. “Things are slowly getting better,” she added.

The Biathlon World Cup starts on February 7 with a mixed relay.
