Hansi Flick is reportedly a coaching candidate at FC Barcelona. But does the FC Bayern triple coach have what it takes to take over the Spanish giant after the German one? Ex-Munich player Javi Martínez is unsure.
Javi Martínez earned legendary status in the FC Bayern jersey between 2012 and 2021. During this period, the Spanish world-class winner also worked with Hansi Flick, with whom he won the treble in Munich in 2019/20. There is no doubt that the coach has what it takes to be successful at FC Barcelona on paper.
“Hansi Flick can manage a group very well and is a very good coach,” Martínez enthused about his former coach in a Twitch interview with journalist Gerard Romero. Flick is also a “very clear person,” the Spaniard added: “He always tells you to your face what he’s thinking. At the same time, he’s calm. You have to really mess with him for him to get angry.”

According to Martínez, not only Flick the person would suit Barca, but also the coach. “His style of play is absolutely Barca-typical. We played with him in Pep style,” the midfielder recalled of his years under the German coach.
However, Martínez is not entirely convinced that Flick will be involved with the Catalans because, in his eyes, the language barrier should not be underestimated. “Is he the right one for Barca? I don’t know. I’m a little worried about the language barrier. That’s a very important point,” said the ex-professional.
Barca officials apparently do not share these concerns. According to Spanish media reports, Flick is one of the closest candidates for the coaching position that Xavi will vacate after the 2023/24 season. Nevertheless, he is only considered one of many candidates.
