International Course for Level I Volleyball Coaches 2024 Inaugurated in Havana

HAVANA, Cuba.- The International Course for Level I Volleyball Coaches 2024 was inaugurated in this capital with the presence of 29 technicians from seven countries, the second to be hosted by the National School of this sport.

Roberto León Richard, president of the Cuban Olympic Committee (COC), welcomed all the participants and highlighted the presence of 13 of them from six nations, as well as the renowned Instructor Antonio Rizola, from Brazil, and Nelson Ramírez, director of the FIVB-NORCECA Regional Development Center of Santo Domingo, who will serve as supervisor.

“Our Olympic Committee feels very proud and satisfied to be able to count on this participation in a first-level seminar of utmost importance for international and Cuban volleyball,” he indicated.

He stated that it is also significant for Cuban sports, because based on the experience that the president of the Cuban federation, Ariel Sainz, has accumulated, this type of course can be developed in other well-known and high-level sports such as boxing and judo, especially in combat disciplines, in which the Island has an interesting history for its results.

Professor Ramírez transmitted a congratulatory message from Cristóbal Marte Hoffiz, head of NORCECA, who fulfills commitments as executive vice president of the FIVB, and who wished them much success in meeting the objectives of the course.

“Our development center has been founded since 1997 and the first supports it had were the instructors from Cuba, which undoubtedly strengthened us,” he acknowledged.

He recalled the contributions of Argelio Hernández and Jorge Pérez Vento, as well as Justo Morales, whom he described as a reference book, always ready to collaborate, and highlighted the work he has been doing for years in a development program for the Spanish-speaking islands. English, as well as in Central America and the Caribbean.

“Our Regional Development Center was created by the FIVB and of the 12 it had in the world due to lack of operation, only those in Thailand, Argentina and Santo Domingo remain, which has been classified as the most active,” he said.

Ramírez valued these courses in Cuba, the previous one was last year, and that these development programs can be carried out to continue expanding the knowledge of volleyball in Cuba at Level I, a rank that allows them to promote in the future in national technical groups.

“But you must work together with your national federation, strengthen the work of your country always hand in hand with it because that work is very important and is the support that is wanted,” he urged all participants from Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica, Colombia, Sri Lanka and Cuba.

For his part, Professor Rizola expressed his joy upon learning that three of his students from last year, including the best record Mario Izquierdo, are part of the group of coaches of the National Volleyball School.

«I want to thank the authorities for being in Cuba, which has always been my reference, and express that I do not know of an international level I course with the presence of a president of the Olympic Committee of that country. Thank you for this new opportunity, it is an honor to be able to share my experiences with you because I learn much more from you,” he declared.

An emotional moment closed the inauguration when four giant prints were unveiled in the lobby of the National Volleyball School, which honor in their representation those who have given their lives for Cuban volleyball: the architect of the Morenas del Caribe Eugenio George, and the champions Olympians Regla Torres, Mireya Luis and Yumilka Ruiz, all inducted into the Hall of Fame, from the American city of Hoyoke, Massachusetts.
