Inter Milan crushes Salernitana, Marcus Thuram scores

Inter does not weaken. In a match between the leader of the Championship and its red lantern, the Nerazzurri gave no favors to an absent Salernitana (4-0) Friday evening at Giuseppe Meazza, during the 25th day of Serie A. The Interists took the took command from the start of the match, failing to open the scoring three times in the first fifteen minutes. Marcus Thuram first hit the post (4th), then Guillermo Ochoa stood out by diverting a shot from Nicolo Barella onto the bar (7th) and pushing away a header from Stefan De Vrij (11th) for a corner.

But the Salernitans’ good star only lasted a quarter of an hour before Marcus Thuram scored his tenth goal of the season in the Championship, on a back cross from Carlos Augusto (1-0, 17th). Two minutes later, Augusto distinguished himself again by delivering another decisive pass, this time on a touch, to serve Lautaro Martinez, scorer with a strike at the entrance to the penalty area (19th).

By deceiving Guillermo Ochoa with a long-range strike, Lautaro Martinez scored his twentieth goal of the season in the Championship, in barely 22 matches. The Argentinian reaches the significant mark of 20 goals in Serie A for the third year in a row.

At the end of the first period, the Interists continued their recital and hit the nail on the head thanks to the Dutchman Denzel Dumfries, perfectly placed, who only had to push the ball into the empty goal after a blocked cross from Barella (3-0 , 40th).

Pavard on the verge of a sensational goal

Returning from the locker room, Inter, never rushed, had the leisure to deploy its game against a Salernitana still without ideas. The leader increased the offensives on the Salerni cage, missing the KO goal due to a vigilant Ochoa on the strike of Hakan Calhanoglu (52nd) and the head of De Vrij (63rd). Benjamin Pavard could have joined the party by scoring a fantastic goal, if he had scored his acrobatic return after a mix-up in the area (85th). In added time, Salernitana broke down again and conceded a fourth goal, this time scored by Marko Arnautovic – who had been denied a goal ten minutes earlier for an offside position -, winner of his face- face-to-face with the Mexican goalkeeper (4-0, 90th).

This success is far from being anecdotal for Inter since it allows Simone Inzaghi’s men to sign a sixth consecutive victory in Serie A and consolidate their leadership position, now ten points ahead of Juventus. A few days before their Champions League round of 16, Inter are putting themselves in ideal conditions to host Atlético Madrid on Tuesday evening (9 p.m.).
