Inside Look: Gilles Simon Joins Daniil Medvedev’s Team as Tactical Advisor

As revealed by We Love Tennis a few days ago, Gilles Simon will be part of Daniil Medvedev’s team a few weeks a year.

Information which was subsequently confirmed by Medvedev in person, and on which Gilles Simon also spoke in a long interview for Le Figaro.

The Frenchman, accustomed to being quite discreet, had a game in several points similar to that of Medvedev, and got along very well with the Russian. Although their collaboration was only revealed this week, Simon revealed that he was already sending tactics to Gilles Cervara, Daniil’s coach, during the Australian Open matches.

“ I’ve already been working with him since December but we haven’t said anything. In Australia, I sent all the tactics. During Daniil’s matches, I sent instructions to Gilles Cervara, who transmitted, or not, in real time to Daniil (laughs)! It’s really on this tactical part that I can help him. For example, he gave me a list of 16 players he doesn’t like to play, and I made 16 tactics to face these players (laughs). Daniil is extremely strong tactically, feels very well what needs to be done, but sometimes, like everyone else, he makes mistakes. Because the emotions, because he’s impatient… So I try to explain it to him, and I think he likes it….
