Íñigo Pérez signs as new coach of Rayo Vallecano

Iñigo Pérez became the new coach of Rayo Vallecano this Wednesday to replace Francisco Rodríguez, dismissed on Monday, as reported by the Madrid club on its official website.

The 36-year-old Navarrese coach returns to Rayo less than a year after his departure as a member of Andoni Iraola’s coaching staff, with whom he served as second coach in the 2022/2023 season in the Vallecano team. This season Iñigo Pérez also tried to accompany Iraola in his adventure in the English League at Bournemouth, but some problems with the work visa papers prevented him from being able to act as assistant coach in the British team and take several months unemployed.

Iñigo Pérez, who as a player wore the shirts of Athletic Club de Bilbao, Huesca, Mallorca, Numancia and Osasuna, faces his first stage as head coach with the challenge of achieving permanence.

He arrives at Rayo to replace Francisco Rodríguez, dismissed due to poor results. The coach from Almería leaves the Madrid team with a record of eight wins, nine draws and ten losses in 23 League games and four Copa del Rey games. In the League, Rayo has only added a victory in the last fourteen days and has had three consecutive defeats, numbers that still keep it seven points above relegation.

Iñigo Pérez’s main endorsement is his locker room knowledge after his time there last season, his tactical qualities of offensive play and possession, in line with what the club is looking for, and the enthusiasm and ambition for his first experience as first coach.
