Makassar – Rahmat Erwin Abdullah, a champion Indonesian lifter, decided something surprising. The athlete from Makassar stated that he was leaving as an athlete who would strengthen South Sulawesi (Sulsel) in any event.
This was expressed by his father and coach, Erwin Abdullah. Initially Erwin Abdullah vented on his personal social media by expressing his disappointment with the Makassar and South Sulawesi City governments who did not support him at all.
“We no longer have hope in the Regional Government or Pengprov or whatever the name of the sports agency in Makassar,” said Erwin to detikSulselThursday (8/2/2024).
Erwin emphasized that there was no longer any reason for him to remain as an athlete from South Sulawesi and fight to make his home region proud. Meanwhile the local government does not pay attention to it at all.
“What is certain is that Makassar has no other valid reason to keep us in Makassar, while we are not given any training. My goodness, there is no place for our training in Makassar. But the magic is how come there are world champions,” he explained.
For this reason, Erwin admitted that he would look for other areas that were willing to hone his son’s talents. Especially areas that are really serious about supporting their hard work all this time.
“We hope that soon we will find a new area that will accommodate us in our welfare efforts now and in the future,” he explained.
It is known that Erwin previously expressed disappointment on his social media with the local government where he was born. He also decided to resign as an athlete from South Sulawesi.
“Alhamdulillah.. Match after match was passed with Gold and World Records.. even though the bitter reality is that it is not seen by our home region, Makassar, South Sulawesi,” wrote Erwin.
“To my beloved region… pammopporanga kodong (apologize profusely) if in the near future we will decide to resign as athletes and coaches from South Sulawesi. And then we will look for other regions that are in line with our ideals to remain “We can achieve while we are still able,” he continued.
