The friendly match will be played next summer, this time not in Arabia but in Europe or in another country with a temperate climate, given that in King Salman’s State in that period it often happens that the thermometer reaches 50 degrees.
A challenge born of chaos
The idea of an Italian-Saudi friendly between the winners of the respective Super Cups was born as a consequence of the chaos that accompanied the organization of the Italian tournament, for the first time with semi-finals and final. In fact, the contract stipulated that one of the two defeated semi-finalists would challenge an Arab team in a friendly match. But the idea of organizing the match was lost between changes of venue, from Jeddah to Riyadh, and of dates. Furthermore, from the Saudis’ point of view, there was the risk that one of Lazio and Fiorentina, who were little known in those parts, would have to play the friendly match. It was thus decided to look for an alternative formula, included in the package of 23 million paid by the Arabs to Serie A. And here is the idea of the Super Cup of Super Cups.
The Arabs want to see the champions
Next summer the winner of the Italian Super Cup, i.e. Inter, will face the winner of the Arab Super Cup, which has yet to be played. The Saudi federation, a direct expression of the government, will do everything to ensure that Inter present themselves at the match with the best possible team. Too often it has happened recently that the stars of the various clubs have avoided playing overpaid friendlies for one reason or another.
