However, in the role of the reigning two-time junior world champion, she completed a complete program, in which she particularly shone with seventh place in the fighter. In the current season, she has not reached that high in the World Cup, when she recorded the best one ninth and one eleventh place.
But the definite peak of winter is coming now. Already when Voborníková went to the Vysočina Arena between the Christmas holidays, she imagined what it would be like when the stands were filled with tens of thousands of noisy spectators. “When I was riding the tracks, I was preparing for it a little bit. But now I’m going to jump into it head on, rather than stressing about it,” she plans.
She watched the last Novi Sad World Championship on TV, as a 12-year-old girl she had not yet planned her biathlon future. Then she got to know the area as a competitor, first at smaller businesses, last year at the World Cup and now also at the biggest biathlon event.
“I’ve had good races here and some that were crazy at the shooting range,” she recalls. And the wind is very strong these days, even in the vicinity of the shooting range. “I don’t think I would be a good shooter in these conditions,” she admits.
She liked the tracks, which are definitely not among the easiest. “I like hills,” reports the petite girl, who can really rock her cross-country skis on the climbs.
Just like last year in Oberhof, her parents will not miss the championship, only her partner Mikuláš Karlík will not be as close to her as she had hoped. At the IBU Cup in Arber, Germany, Karlík fought together with Adam Václavík for the eventual position of the sixth man in the team for the World Cup, but the coaches have decided not to fill this position yet.
“I was quite disappointed. The boys were leaving for the last race, waiting for one of them to arrive,” Voborníková admits.
“Adam is also my great friend. When I picked up Mikuláš in Jilemnice on Saturday, where they had both arrived, you could tell how devastated they were by the fact that it didn’t work out for either of them.
