Heshun Anju Project Breaks Ground in Tainan City, Taiwan to Provide Social Housing Units

[The Epoch Times, February 26, 2024](The Epoch Times reporter Chang Huairen reported in Tainan, Taiwan) The Land Management Bureau stated on the 26th that a groundbreaking ceremony for the “Heshun Anju” project will be held in Annan District, Tainan City on March 1. The project is sponsored by the National Center for Housing and Urban Renewal and entrusts the Southern District Urban Infrastructure Engineering Branch of the Department of Land and Resources to handle the contract performance management. The Education Bureau of the Tainan City Government will provide the land. The total project funding is approximately 8.88 billion yuan and is expected to be completed in 2028.

According to the land certificate, “Heshun Anju” can provide approximately 1,703 social housing units. In the future, it is expected to obtain the three major certifications of green building, smart building and earthquake resistance, and will also have public service facilities such as childcare center and community-style day care. Sharing with surrounding neighbors creates a livable community and environment across generations, alleviating the pressure of renting housing and caring for disabled families.

The Department of Land and Resources explained that the “Heshun Anju” base is located in Annan District, Tainan City, close to the Lakeside Library, Asia Pacific International Baseball Training Center, Taiwan Museum of History and Annan Hospital. After future residents move in, they can use the Heshun Transfer Station bus to connect to the Tainan Science Park for commuting. The national highways provide convenient transportation from south to north, serving local employment and rental housing needs.

The Department of Land and Resources pointed out that according to the “Social Housing Construction Plan” (second revision) approved by the Executive Yuan in 2022, Tainan City’s promotion target is 7,000 households. As of the end of January 2024, the government has built 8,211 households within Tainan City’s jurisdiction. The goal has been achieved ahead of schedule, with 6,373 households established by the central government and 1,838 households established by local governments. The central government has also approved a subsidy of NT$1.025 billion to the Tainan City Government. Planning and construction will continue this year, with an additional 575 units expected to be promoted, bringing a total of 8,786 social housing units in Tainan City in the future.

The Department of Land and Resources finally stated that promoting the construction of social housing requires joint cooperation between the central government, local governments and the private sector. As social housing spreads across Taiwan, it will also improve on-site elderly care, day care, public spaces, green spaces, etc. Public facilities improve the overall living functions and share a high-quality living environment with the surrounding people.
