Hertha BSC wants to maintain what is probably its last realistic chance of direct promotion back to the Bundesliga three days after the big cup disappointment against Kaiserslautern. The second division football team will welcome Hamburger SV to the Olympic Stadium on Saturday evening (8.30 p.m. / Sport1 and Sky) and is expecting almost 60,000 spectators. Already nine points behind the promotion ranks, the Berliners need a win against HSV, which is eight points ahead of Hertha in fourth place before the match day.

The capital club, which was shocked by the sudden death of President Kay Bernstein in mid-January, has lost its last two competitive games. A wave of illness recently weakened the team. Pascal Klemens and Linus Gechter will definitely be missing against Hamburg. Bence (retraining) and Marton Dardai (muscle injury) are also out.

Key player Fabian Reese celebrated his half-time comeback against Kaiserslautern. It is unclear whether and for how long he can play against HSV. New signing Bradley Ibrahim is a direct candidate for the first team.
