The GroenLinks council faction in Ooststellingwerf wants to create the possibility for fireworks-free zones. This should be taken into account when drawing up the new General Local Regulation.
Residents can then jointly apply at any time to have their street declared fireworks-free. GroenLinks states that more and more people are looking for fireworks-free campsites, camper pitches and/or parks. And that offers recreational opportunities for Ooststellingwerf, or so the idea is. Setting off decorative fireworks causes stress and nuisance for people and pets, but according to GroenLinks also for wild animals such as birds. And lighting decorative fireworks can be associated with accidents, injuries, disruption of public order and environmental pollution.
