Giacomo Losi, historic captain of the Roma football team, died on Sunday at the age of 88. Losi played as a defender for Roma from 1954 until 1969, winning two Italian Cups and a Fairs Cup (the second most important European cup at the time, corresponding to the current Europa League). Losi was born in Soncino, in the province of Cremona, but had tied his footballing fortunes to Roma, so much so that he was nicknamed “Core de’ Roma”. He played with the club for 15 seasons and 386 games, a record that lasted for over 40 years and then surpassed only by Francesco Totti and Daniele De Rossi. Losi had also played 11 times for the national team and after retiring he was a coach from 1970 to 1986.
