At the opening of the Tour of the Algarve in Lagos, the Belgian Gerben Thijssen distinguished himself by winning the first stage this Wednesday.
Belgian Gerben Thijssen (Intermarché-Wanty) won the first stage of the Algarve Cycling Tour in a sprint on Wednesday in Lagos, Portugal (south). He was one length ahead of the Dutchman Marijn van den Berg. The favorites for the general classification Remco Evenepoel, Geraint Thomas, Sepp Kuss or Tao Geoghegan Hart finished in the peloton despite an impressive collective fall in the last kilometers.
