Gaël Monfils Disqualified from Ultimate Tennis Showdown After Injury to Official

“The UTS is 100 percent convinced that Gaël had no malicious intent, but since an official was injured, even slightly, we saw no other option than to disqualify Gaël,” the statement continued.

Monfils “accepted the disqualification. He and the tournament director parted ways amicably.”

The Frenchman had already played a game at the Ultimate Tennis Showdown and lost to Alex de Minaur 12:15, 8:17, 9:16.

After the disqualification, Monfils’ compatriot Lucas Pouille stepped in.

Outstanding tweener – Thiem works magic at UTS in Oslo

The Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS) is an invitational event that was launched in 2020 and is played with modified tennis rules.

A total of eight top players are competing in Oslo, divided into two groups. The two best from Group A (Holger Rune, Aleksander Bublik, Casper Ruud, Dominic Thiem) and Group B (Andrey Rublev, Alex de Minaur, Lucas Pouille, Benoît Paire) reach the semi-finals.

The round of the last four will take place on Sunday – as will the final (live and on-demand on discovery+).

The tournament prize money is 1.665 million US dollars (approx. 1.540 million euros). If a player wins all matches on the way to the title, he will collect 421,800 US dollars (approx. 391,000 euros).
