From School Director to Race Steward: The Creative Measures of Rik Bossuyt

In daily life, 57-year-old Rik Bossuyt is a school director in Kortrijk, but after almost every Flemish top race he is the steward who takes care of the winner. To keep up with Van Aert in Kuurne, he had to be very creative on Sunday. First he made a brisk sprint, then continued the chase with an electric scooter.

It was an image (see above) that quickly went viral on the web. “Luckily there was an employee around the corner with that scooter,” Bossuyt explains. “As the crow flies, it’s only a 50-meter walk, but the VIP tent takes up the space between the line and the stage. Otherwise we have to cross a boggy field, so we choose to make a detour of one kilometer.”
