Frenkie de Jong Displeased with FC Barcelona’s Attitude Amid Contract Negotiations

is not happy with FC Barcelona’s attitude. According to Spanish SPORT the Catalans would have increased the pressure on the Dutchman and his entourage. Given their negotiating position, Barcelona would do well to sell De Jong this summer, but the midfielder himself does not agree with this. This seems to force the Dutchman to extend his contract.

The former Ajax player still has a continuous contract in Barcelona until mid-2026, and received a proposal to commit to the club even longer. However, De Jong and his entourage have not yet responded to this. The current contract proposal would mean that the midfielder will receive a salary reduction in the short term. De Jong previously received a salary reduction when he signed his current contract in the summer of 2020.

The Dutchman is therefore in doubt about a longer stay at the club, but he does not want to leave Barça this summer. The Spanish superpower thinks differently about this. Looking at the negotiating position, the Catalans would benefit more from selling De Jong next summer.

The midfielder is disappointed with the way in which doubt has been sown about his future. With two years left on his contract, there is no rush to extend his contract, which means De Jong has no plans to leave Barça yet.

‘Tottenham places first bid’

According to Spanish media, FC Barcelona has now received a first offer. Tottenham Hotspur would pay 60 million euros for the arrival of the Dutch midfielder, who made the switch from Ajax to Catalonia in the summer of 2019 for 85 million euros.
