French Sports Minister Responds to Teddy Riner’s Olympic Ticket Frustrations

Passionate about sport, cinema and television (on screen and behind) since his childhood, Bernard has been a journalist for 10 Sport since 2018. More skilled with the keyboard in hand than with the ball, he decides to mainly cover a beloved sport, criticized and hated at the same time (football) and a sport that is not one (wrestling).

A few months before the Paris 2024 Olympic Games (July 26 – August 11), Teddy Riner shared his frustration regarding the number of places allocated to him for his day of competition, explaining that he had to “fight every day”. An intervention which did not escape Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, the Minister of Sports and the Olympic and Paralympic Games responding to the triple French champion.

The big meeting is approaching for Teddy Riner. Double gold medalist in singles, the 34-year-old Frenchman dreams of a victory at home after his coronations in London in 2012 then in Rio four years later. Such success would make him a little more in the history of judo since it would allow him to equal the only judoka to win an Olympic gold medal three times, Tadahiro Nomura. Logically, Teddy Riner wishes to be accompanied by his loved ones to help him achieve this feat, but according to his words, it is not easy, even for him, to obtain tickets for the Paris Olympics.

“I have the right to two places”

Guest of the show “Quelle Époque!” » broadcast Saturday evening on France 2, Teddy Rinse assured that he was “in the process of [se] fight every day to get places”, to the great astonishment of those present on the set. “Come on, are we trashy? OK. The champion that I am, with everything I have brought back to the Federation, I have the right to two places (for its competition day, Friday August 2). But I love my Federation, I love my sport! (laughs).” An announcement which created astonishment given the notoriety of Teddy Rinse. “The scandal, notably released Lea Salame. But that’s not possible.”

“Don’t worry Teddy Riner, you’ll have six places”

The day after the broadcast, Amélie Oudé-Castéra wanted to respond to the French champion. “Don’t worry Teddy Riner, you will have six places for your entourage, for each of your sessions! », indicated the Minister of Sports and the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Four tickets will be offered to French athletes by the National Sports Agency (ANS) and two transmitted by the IOC. “For the State, it is an effort of more than €1.6 million”, underlined Oudéa-Castéra.
