French Prodigy Victor Wembanyama Makes All-Star Weekend Debut

French prodigy Victor Wembanyama missed out on the NBA young talent tournament, making his first appearance at an All-Star Weekend event on Friday in Indianapolis (Indiana, United States).

On the sidelines of the All-Star Game scheduled for Sunday, the NBA organized a mini-tournament on Friday with four teams made up of its young talents, with “rookies” (beginners), such as the French Victor Wembanyama and Bilal Coulibaly, “sophomores” (2nd year) and G-League players (NBA development championship).

Wembanyama and Coulibaly, teammates last year at the Levallois Mets, had the pleasure of finding themselves in the “Pau” team, coached by former Spanish player Pau Gasol.

But this event, although without stakes, turned into a small humiliation for the two French people, eliminated in the semi-final by the team made up of G-League players (41 to 36).

Wembanyama, the main attraction of the tournament, was particularly clumsy. Wanting to put on a show, he attempted several complicated moves and lost 5 balls in 11 minutes which weighed down his team, of which he was still the top scorer (11 points).

The 20-year-old Frenchman will have the opportunity to catch up on Saturday as he takes part in the “Skills challenge”, a skill competition, in the company of established stars like Trae Young and Anthony Edwards.
