SH6 (small players)

It passes for Charles NOAKES (n°5) ! The Frenchman won 21/7 21/10 in the round of 16, then 21/13 20/22 21/13 in the quarters against the Englishman Krysten COOMBS (n°6). In the semi-final he will meet the world number 1, CHU Man Kai (Taipei), against whom he has never won. On the other hand, end of the adventure for Maxime GREBOVAL who fell in the round of 16.

SL3 – SL4 – SU5 (standing players with lower or upper limb disabilities)

Simple

At men’s, Lucas MAZUR (n°1 – SL4) reaches the semi-final! Victorious in the round of 16, the Frenchman continued in the quarters against the Indian Tarun TARUN (n°6). He will defend his title in the semi-final against another Indian, Suhas Lalinakere YATHIRAJ (n°3). Lucas has already won 8 times since 2019 against this player. For Mathieu THOMAS (SL3), who had passed the eighth stage, the step was too high in the quarters, against the reigning World Champion. The Frenchman loses 15/21 17/21. In the SU5 table, Meril LOQUETTE was stopped in the round of 16, facing world No. 2 and vice-World Champion, Dheva ANRIMUSTHI (Indonesia).

As for the single ladies, Maud LEFORT (n°3 – SU5) stands out! Exempted from the round of 16, the player from Ezanville-Ecouen plays in the quarterfinals against the Japanese SUGINO (n°7), 21/18 21/8. In the semi-final she will face the defending champion and world number 1, Manisha RAMADASS (India). The Frenchwoman leads 5-1 in their direct confrontations.

For the other Tricolores, the bar was too high. Coraline BERGERON (SL3) falls in eighth, just like Lénaïg MORIN (SL4) and Faustine NOËL (SL4). The latter, in a 100% French duel, gave way in the quarters to Milena SURREAU, who won 21/17 21/18, before losing at the gates of the semi-finals against the Indonesian (n°3), 14/21 12/21.

Doubles

In men’s doubles, Guillaume GAILLY and Mathieu THOMAS (n°5, SL3-SL4) flew through their round of 16, 21/8 21/7, against the pair SHAREEF ALKHADDAM/ALASADI (n°11, Iraq). The Tricolores will play their quarter-final tomorrow, against world No. 1 KADAM/BHAGAT (India). In mixed SL3-SU5, Lucas MAZUR and Faustine NOEL (n°3) see their chances of medals disappear, they who finished on the 3rd step of the podium in 2022. They lost in the quarterfinals against the Indians BARETHA/MANDEEP KAUR (n°5), 12/21 21/23. In the same draw, the duo Meril LOQUETTE/Coraline BERGERON lost earlier in the day, in the round of 16, after 3 sets.

Finally, in women’s doubles SLE-SU5, Catherine I ENJOYED and her Portuguese partner Beatriz MONTEIRO will play their quarter-final tomorrow.

WH1 – WH2 (armchair players)

There will be no medals during these 2024 World Championships for French armchair players. In singles, David TOUPE (WH1), Stephen DURAND (WH1) and Thomas JAKOBS (WH2) saw their journey end in the eighth, respecting the logic of the ranking against better ranked opponents. In the men’s doubles, while the three Frenchmen met in the round of 16, it was the JAKOBS/TOUPE duo who won (21/5 21/7). Then, in the quarter-finals, David and Thomas fought with all their weapons but it was not enough to bring down the world No. 1, CHOI Jungman/KIM Jung Jun (Korea), 14/21 21/16 18/ 21.
