French Para-badists secure 3 bronze medals at World Championships in preparation for Paris 2024 Paralympic Games

As the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games approach, French para-badists leave the world championships with 3 bronze medals.

Three medals… and great promises. During the Worlds organized in Pattaya, France was expected. Lucas Mazur (n°1 – SL4), Paralympic champion in Tokyo and three-time reigning world champion, was the man to beat in this competition. He who has won everything since 2017 suffered defeat at the semi-final stage. The fault lies with the Indian Suhas Lalinakere Yathiraj who in 2 sets managed to make the Frenchman doubt and then break 21/16 21/19. A failure to quickly forget in order to set out again to conquer a second Paralympic title.

Maud Lefort (SU5), for her first Worlds, leaves with bronze. The native of Val d’Oise lost in the semi-final against the reigning world champion – Manisha Ramadass (India) – after a long fight 21/19 11/21 14/21. At almost 18 years old, the Frenchwoman represents the future of French para-badminton.

Time to prepare for the Games

Charles Noakes (seeded 3/4, SH6) holds his first world singles medal. After a group stage where he dominated all his opponents, the Frenchman had to work hard in the quarter-final against the Englishman Coombs 21/13 20/22 21/13. In the semi-final, he never managed to take control of the match against the Chinese LIN Naili. He bows 14/21 11/21.

These world championships mark the end of the “Race to Paris” by being the last competition counted. The French will focus on preparation for the Paralympic Games which will take place at the Arena Porte de la Chapelle from August 29 to September 2, 2024.
