French Footballer Paul Pogba Faces 4-Year Ban for Doping Violation

At the beginning of this month it was announced that the prosecutor of the Italian anti-doping agency demanded a 4-year ban for the French footballer.

The 30-year-old Pogba, 91 times French international and world champion with Les Bleus in 2018, tested positive for the use of synthetic testosterone, a muscle-enhancing drug, on August 20 last year after a match between Udinese and Juventus. The Juventus midfielder has been provisionally suspended since September 12.

According to Pogba, the positive test is due to a dietary supplement prescribed to him by a doctor in the United States. He is said to have previously refused a plea deal – pleading guilty and receiving a 2-year suspension.

Pogba has played for Juventus again since the summer of 2022. He then came over on a free transfer from Manchester United, which had paid a record amount of 105 million euros for him to ‘Juve’ in 2016.

That transfer made him the world’s most expensive footballer for a while (until Neymar’s transfer from Barcelona to PSG in 2017).

The Frenchman has already announced that he will appeal against his 4-year suspension.
