Freiburg Suffers 3-0 Defeat in Dortmund with Injury to Manuel Gulde

Freiburg had no chance in Dortmund on Friday evening and lost 3-0. In addition to the result, the sports club also had to accept the injury to Manuel Gulde. Coach Christian Streich gave at least a slight all-clear.

With Matthias Ginter (Achilles tendon irritation), Daniel-Kofi Kyereh (retraining after a torn cruciate ligament), Philipp Lienhart (groin operation), Merlin Röhl (red suspension), Max Rosenfelder (patellar tendinopathy) and Kenneth Schmidt (abdominal muscle operation), the Freiburg team were missing one in Dortmund row of players. The sports club couldn’t use any more injuries.

But that’s exactly what happened in the 21st minute: defensive man Manuel Gulde got stuck in the grass after a tackle against Dortmund’s Donyell Malen. That didn’t look good, the defender was immediately treated on his right leg and had to be substituted a short time later, Attila Szalai replaced him.

After the encounter, Christian Streich was able to at least partially give the all-clear. “Luckily it doesn’t look that bad,” said the coach DAZN and continued: “He heard it crack. The way it looks now, we’re hoping that the inner ligament is pulled. We’re hoping that it’s not torn. We’re firmly assuming that it’s not a torn cruciate ligament. It’s enough what injuries we have.”

“Were not dangerous enough”

At the time of the injury it was already 0-1 from Freiburg’s perspective. And even after that, the guests didn’t really have a chance. “We were in the game in the first half, but we had a few situations in which we were able to cross but didn’t finish dangerously. We made an individual mistake on the second goal and then it was difficult,” analyzed Streich. “There were phases in the game where I didn’t think it was that bad, but the power going forward was missing. In the end we had no chance because we weren’t dangerous enough to score.”

And so after the final whistle, a deserved and clear 3-0 for Borussia Dortmund was on the scoreboard. “Dortmund was simply too good for us because we didn’t reach our performance limits today. If the situation is like that, we can’t win,” Streich concluded his conclusion.
