Fos-sur-Mer Badminton Club Shines at 2024 French Championships

It’s a great weekend that’s coming to an end for French badminton. Challenge taken up for the club and the town of Fos-sur-Mer, in charge of the heavy organization of the tournament. In terms of results, gold for the Fosséens and great sporting performances.

After three days of competition, let’s now take stock of these 2024 French Badminton Championships. And it is very positive for the players of the Fos-sur-Mer club. There were still four in the race to compete in the finals. In men’s singles, the contract is fulfilled for Christo and Toma Junior, who above all wanted to keep the title in the family. They gave us a beautiful 100% Popov final. Toma Junior bows after three tight sets. He thus leaves his title of champion of France to his brother. In men’s doubles, the brothers will seek gold, after a complicated match against Lucas Corvée and Ronan Labar. A first set narrowly recovered, a second set largely lost and a final set hanging on. Christo therefore offers himself a double, gold medalist in men’s singles and doubles.

Same fight, same victory: in mixed, the Fosséenne pair Tom Lalot Trescarte and Elsa Jacob won against Eloi Adam and Sharone Bauer, also in three sets. At only 17 years old, the two young players climbed to the top step of the French podium. In women’s doubles, Elsa Jacob and her partner Camille Pognante lost, in two sets, against the favorites Margot Lambert and Anne Tran. They are not Fosséenne, but are champions of France. Léonice Huet wins her women’s singles final against Rosy Pancasari.

An organization down to the millimeter

It’s another challenge, taken up this time by the town and the Fos-sur-Mer club, who brilliantly orchestrated this weekend. A challenge possible thanks to the many volunteers. For the occasion, there were more than 60 people involved: refreshment bar, logistics on the grounds, reception of the public, preparation of the room, refereeing body… Gary Marnay, secretary of the Fos club, Lionel Campari, president, and René Raimondi , mayor of Fos, are pleased with the work accomplished: “All this would not have been possible without the enormous work of all our volunteers, and we thank them enormously.”

Find here several photos and interviews with the players before and after the matches.
