On November 3, 2023, a very emotional moment was experienced at the Monumental stadium: they said goodbye to the field and therefore to the vast majority of River’s people, both Jonatan Maidana and Enzo Pérez. The players, who were a reference on and off the field of play, took different directions.
While Enzo continues playing for Estudiantes de La Plata, today it was finally known that Maidana hangs up his boots and retires at 38 years old. The information was given by Bolavip journalist Germán García Grova and also appears in a context in which the former River defender could have gone to Los Andes, club where it emerged. Furthermore, his brother plays on the promotion team, which could have meant an extra incentive.

The uncertainty now lies in knowing what the former Millionaire’s next step is, after the retirement that he has not yet formally announced. One possibility is that he adds from his experience in some position that River requires. In January, in dialogue with TyC Sports, River’s Technical Secretary Leonardo Ponzio opened the doors to Jonatan Maidana, if he retired. At that time, he said: “Brito told him that the doors of the club are open for whatever he wants and prepares for.
