In those two championships he achieved a record of 3-0 and a 2.73 ERA with 22 strikeouts in 33.0 innings during five Round Robin outings, while in the Final Series he was also 3-0, but with a better earned run percentage (1.29). and 10 strikeouts in 21.0 innings and three starts.

Precisely in the 1987-88 final against the Eastern Stars he was the Most Valuable Player, scoring two of the team’s four victories and combining a 1.17 ERA, 0.78 WHIP and 10 strikeouts in 15.1 innings.

The Lions acquired him along with Rafael Belliard in 1982, in a move that brought Joaquín Andújar to the Águilas Cibaeñas. With the long-haired guys, the right-hander pitched from 1983 to 1989 and then in the 1996-97 campaign.

In regular series with the Reds he worked 226.2 innings, struck out 194 and had an 8-13 record in 57 games, including a 4.05 ERA. He was also part of the Águilas (1979-82) and the Tigres del Licey (1998-00).

The native of Rancho Viejo, La Vega, also participated in the Major Leagues between 1983 and 1995, with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago White Sox, St. Louis Cardinals, Philadelphia Phillies and Montreal Expos.

He was the National League strikeout leader (201) in 1989 and his lifetime ERA was 3.76, with a 1.26 WHIP, 1,594 strikeouts, 21 complete games, 7 shutouts and 86 wins in his 13-year career.

Due to his career in the Majors and in the Professional Baseball League of the Dominican Republic (LIDOM), especially with El Esído, in 2011 he was elected to the Dominican Sports Hall of Fame.
