The Dortmund district court has temporarily closed the proceedings against former national soccer player Nico Schulz. The 30-year-old, who was under contract with Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund until last summer, must pay 150,000 euros to charitable organizations. If this amount is received within three months, the final discontinuation will take place. Judge Christine Weber confirmed this.

Schulz was accused of three counts of grievous bodily harm. Schulz’s defense attorney explained at the beginning of the trial that his client had certainly engaged in misconduct in the relationship. However, the attacks described in the indictment did not take place in this form. The now 36-year-old witness refused to testify in court. Her lawyer pointed out that the witness could make herself liable to prosecution if she repeated the allegations in this form.

Before the trial, Schulz had also paid his ex-partner an undisclosed amount of damages.

Borussia Dortmund terminated Schulz’s contract early in the summer of 2023 after the search for a new club was unsuccessful. The professional has been without a club since then, his last appearance was on May 7, 2022. In the summer of 2019, the full-back came to BVB from TSG Hoffenheim for 25 million euros. The Berlin native also played for Borussia Mönchengladbach and Hertha BSC. Schulz appeared a total of twelve times for the national team between August 2018 and November 2020, scoring two goals.
