Former BVB Jewel Vasco Walz Joins 1. FC Bocholt in Regional League Move

    A former BVB player found a new club on the last transfer day. He signed with a regional league team from North Rhine-Westphalia.

    Dortmund/Bocholt – Deadline Day (February 1st) caused a few surprises again. Especially at Borussia Dortmund. Completely unexpectedly, Hendry Blank left BVB and joined RB Salzburg. Julian Rijkhoff also moved to Ajax Amsterdam. In Vasco Walz, a former BVB youth player has also found a new club.

    The 19-year-old has joined 1. FC Bocholt, who are currently at the top of the table in the Regionalliga West (4th league). Vasco Walz was on the pitch for Borussia Dortmund’s U19s until the summer.

    However, the central midfielder did not receive a contract for the senior team and has been without a club since then. Now he wants to use his opportunity at FCB to advance into the professional sector.

    Christopher Schorch, managing director of sports and organization at 1. FC Bocholt, was enthusiastic about his latest addition on Thursday (February 1st): “With Vasco we are getting a very well-trained, very talented young player. He wants to take the next step with us,” the 35-year-old is quoted as saying in the official club statement.

    He further explains: “We see great potential to develop him further together with our club and are happy that the change can take place at such short notice.”

    Vasco Walz celebrated winning the German championship with the BVB U19

    Vasco Walz himself also exuded great anticipation: “I am very happy to become part of the team. I will do my best to help the team. I would like to thank those responsible at 1. FC Bocholt for their trust and want to repay it with good performance.”

    The German-Italian played a total of 90 competitive games for the BVB youth team. He scored three goals and six assists. Vasco Walz came to Dortmund from Karlsruher SC’s youth team in the summer of 2019 and celebrated winning the German U19 championship together with the Westphalia team in the 2021/2022 season.
