Football, South Korea sacks Klinsmann – Football

South Korea coach Jurgen Klinsmann has been sacked. This was announced today by the Korean Football Federation (KFA), following the recent elimination of the national team in the semi-finals of the Asian Cup.

“The KFA has decided to change coach after careful evaluation,” federal president Chung Mong-gyu said in a press conference dismissing the German coach after just under a year at the helm of the Asian team. “Klinsmann failed to demonstrate the management skills and leadership expected of a national team coach in areas ranging from tactics, personnel management, work attitude and other areas necessary to bring competitiveness to the team,” Chung said.

“Klinsmann’s attitude and competitiveness as a coach did not meet expectations. We have therefore decided to change direction before the qualifying matches for the 2026 World Cup,” he added. Klinsmann said his mission to South Korea was “an incredible journey” and thanked his players in a message on social media. The South Korean national team, one of the big favorites for the Asian Cup, was surprisingly eliminated in the semi-final by Jordan 2-0.
