Football: Juan Bernat, loaned by PSG to Benfica, operated on and absent for around two months

Bad news for Juan Bernat. The Spanish full-back, loaned to Benfica by PSG this season, will be absent for around two months. Suffering from pubalgia for many weeks, he was operated on in Bordeaux by Dr Gilles Reboul to speed up his return. However, he will have to wait another two months before returning to competition, until his revalidation is completed.

Still under contract with Paris Saint-Germain, which ends at the end of the 2025 season, the Spaniard will experience an almost blank year in Portugal. Arriving this summer, he has only taken part in six matches in all competitions since the start of the season, for only 245 minutes of play. With a return planned for April, deadlines will be tight to increase this total .

But pubalgia is an unforgiving injury. Athletes are also often victims of this inflammation which causes quite intense and chronic pain in the pubic area. Patience is often advised to treat this little glitch, but surgery may be necessary when it lasts too long.

This is therefore the choice that was made. The French international will therefore reunite with his teammates at the beginning of April, after the round of 16 of the Europa League, during which Benfica will face Toulouse.
