Hradec Králové – Olomouc, Ondrušek’s battle with Kevin Klíma

“The first period was bad from our side, we didn’t have movement or fights, nothing. Thanks to Kuba Sedláček, we managed it by a goal and there was a bit of a ruckus in the dressing room. We are happy that the next substitution kicked us off and we kept that pace,” Ondrušek summarized the essential points of Olomouc’s turnaround in the east of Bohemia after the 4:2 win.

The Roosters scored two crucial goals in a span of 62 seconds in the second period. When she then defended her narrow lead, Ondrušek had a fight with Kevin Klíma in the third part. “I’m a calm person and even today I wouldn’t fight if I didn’t have to defend myself,” smiled the unconventional “fighter”.

The whole situation resulted from his intervention with a high stick on Oliver Okuliar, whom Klíma set out to avenge. “He hit me in the face with a hockey stick a little bit, which turned me on. Luckily I saw it and managed to get my hands on it. If not, it will probably break all my teeth,” Ondrušek described. “Then we talked about it calmly. He told me he thought I elbowed the player. But it was an unwanted high stick,” he explained.

Olomouc then defended a four-minute deficit due to Ondrušk’s foul and in the end ensured their victory with two more goals. The last one was scored by her captain, who appeared in another atypical situation – a separate escape. “I thought I had a little more time, but someone brought me a hockey stick from behind. I blamed myself a little, but I finished the situation and didn’t let it go. In the end, it turned out well,” he described his goal, which he scored from a wide angle.

All Ondrušek needed was an assist for Gordie Howe’s so-called hat trick. “It’s a shame, but we have three points and that’s important. In addition, there is an option that we will get Hradec. We play balanced games for a long time, but usually we lose them by a goal or two. We are happy that we broke it,” the Olomouc captain reveled.

His team is currently three points behind eighth-placed Mountfield and one on ninth-placed Vítkovice. It is now almost certain that two of these three teams will face each other in the pre-round series of the playoffs. “Every point is needed, everyone wants to win a better position. That’s also why the match is now approaching playoff matches,” Ondrušek was looking for the reasons for the relatively emotional battle.

Even before the plot is resolved in the regular season, the thirty-seven-year-old quarterback is probably in for great fame. He should start his thousandth competitive game in the Olomouc jersey. “I know it’s supposed to be in Mladá Boleslav. But anything can happen, like an injury, and I don’t have to wait for it. You have to think about tomorrow and not too far ahead,” he prefaced the moment, which the Haná club is already eagerly anticipating.
