FIJLKAM Federal Council Meeting Recap: New Logo, Safeguarding Policy, and Olympic Preparation

Rome, 16 February 2024 – The 164th FIJLKAM Federal Council met today.

At the opening of the proceedings, President Falcone congratulated the Sectors for the recent excellent results obtained by the national teams: for the 2 continental bronze medals at the European Wrestling Championships currently being held in Bucharest, for the fifteen medals won by Karate at the recent European Youth Championships and for the mathematical qualification of the first six judokas for the Paris Olympics.

He then went on to illustrate the results of the various meetings held with CONI, Sport and Health and the Department of Sport regarding the various problems linked to the new regulation of sports work, the forthcoming approval by CONI of the new Fundamental Principles, the management of the National Register of amateur sports activities, the “memory trip” to Auschwitz Birkenau in which a FIJLKAM delegation led by the Olympic champion Luigi Busà participated together with the national para-karate team.

Subsequently the President returned to the topic of the Safeguarding Policy (protection of minors and prevention of harassment, gender violence and any other condition of discrimination) and the Council approved the appointment of the members of the Safeguarding Office in the figure Gregorio Stanizzi as President and Marcella Bounous and Angela Fortuna as members, who will be able to make use of specific consultants who are experts in specific topics. The Office in question will prepare the Code of Conduct and the forms relating to the organizational models to be sent to the Sports Clubs.

Among the federal activities, the President highlighted the excellent results achieved in 2023 by the National Federal Training School and the preparation of the new 2024 training catalogue, in addition to the positive feedback obtained from the holding of conferences and round tables such as “Safe Sport” last January.

In view of the important Olympic event, the new federal logo was also approved (which will be officially presented by next May) and new projects regarding communication and promotion of federal disciplines were illustrated, with the aim of maximize its visibility in the Olympic year.

With regards to the obligations linked to the entry into force of the new Federal Statute, the Council has appointed the three Sector Presidents, Giuseppe Matera for Judo, Giovanni Morsiani (also Deputy Vice President) for Wrestling and Davide Benetello for Karate. Furthermore, in relation to the Basic Vote, the new Regulation governing the competitive activity of Disabled Athletes has been approved and will soon be available on the federal website.

After having examined other organizational and administrative issues, including the approval of the 2024 Budget, and having taken the related resolutions, the Council concluded its work at 12.30.
