FC “LBTU” Wins Third Consecutive Jelgava Football Championship Title

This time, eight teams, in which more than 130 players were registered, fought for the championship title. Unlike previous years, this year the distribution of places in the championship became clear only in the final or 7th round, where in the decisive game FK “LBTU” defeated FK “Ozolane” with 3:1 and, only thanks to a better ratio of goals, became the winners of the tournament. It should be noted that FC “LBTU” won this title for the third year in a row. The teams played a round-robin tournament. FC “LBTU” won five games, drew one and lost one game.

Aldis Trukšāns of FK “LBTU” was recognized as the best footballer of the championship, Edgars Dimitrijevs of FK “Beitar” was recognized as the best goalkeeper, Jurijs Ivanovs of “Ozolane” team was the best defender, while the best goal scorer and most productive footballer of the tournament was FK “Beitars”. player Reinis Bachers, who scored 10 goals and provided seven assists in the tournament.

“This amateur tournament is highly anticipated among football players, and this is confirmed by the fact that the number of teams required for the tournament was completed in two days,” admits the representative of the tournament organizers, Ainars Tamisārs, adding that a one-day football tournament will definitely be organized for amateurs in the summer, but already in the winter season the winners of the Jelgava football championship “Winter 2024” have been determined again.

It should be noted that this season the city championships are included in the Latvian indoor football 1st league system as preliminaries, which will be followed by regional competitions. The champions of Jelgava, Dobele and Ķekava will compete in Zemgale, and then the final tournament of the 1st Latvian Indoor Football League will take place, in which the six best teams from the regions will compete for entry into the Indoor Football Premier League. It is planned that the Zemgale competition, in which FC “LBTU” will participate, could take place in the middle of March, and the final competition – on March 29 in Salaspils.

The competition in Jelgava was organized by the association “Youth Football Center “Jelgava”” in cooperation with the Sports Service Center in order to popularize and develop amateur football in Jelgava and to encourage residents to adopt an active lifestyle.
