On March 1st, Max Eberl officially begins his job as FC Bayern’s sports director. The record champions officially introduced the 50-year-old a few days earlier. Eberl was managing director of sports at RB Leipzig until last September. Before that, he worked for many years in management at Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Max Eberl is the new strong man at FC Bayern. The bosses have high hopes that the 50-year-old sports director will lead the record champions into a successful future. During his presentation, Eberl gives an overview of his plans.

FC Bayern is placing responsibility for its sporting fortunes in the coming years in the hands of Max Eberl. On Monday evening, the record champions announced that the 50-year-old would start work as sports director on March 1st. Eberl signed a contract with the Munich team until the summer of 2027.

The following day, Eberl sat on the podium at his presentation together with Hainer and CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen and presented his ideas for the future of Munich. “It’s a pleasure to come home after 30 years,” the manager opened his introduction. “There are challenges ahead. The search for a coach starting in the summer and considering what the right steps are for the squad. We want to get the best out of it in the next three months. We are in the role of hunter, which is unusual for Bavaria.”

Eberl outlined his ambitions clearly: “I’m here to collect titles. All of my colleagues have already won a bunch of championships, I haven’t won any yet.” Looking at the team, the new sports director said: “Then we want to build a squad that shows sustainability and has an identification for the people.” He is looking forward to it Collaboration with Christoph Freund, with whom he had to complete a “difficult task”. “We have to find the right coach for Bayern Munich and also the right players for the club.” Eberl did not want to answer specifically how big the upheaval would have to be. “We will look at the squad after the right coach has been found.” He is taking on a “great legacy” in Munich, said the manager.

The long-time Mönchengladbach manager who most recently worked for Leipzig has long been considered FC Bayern’s preferred candidate. Sport is at the “front row” at the club, Bavaria’s President Herbert Hainer was quoted as saying in the statement about Eberl’s personnel. “We are convinced that he will successfully shape and shape the future of this club.” The issue of Eberl was addressed immediately after his time at RB Leipzig ended. “We not only need the best players on the pitch, but also the best people in the management team,” said Hainer.
