Everton’s Premier League Points Deduction Reduced: Manchester City’s FFP Investigation Looms

BANJARMASINPOST.CO.ID – Everton’s 10-point deduction in the Premier League has been reduced to six points as Arsenal and Liverpool await the results of Manchester City’s own FFP investigation.

The Premier League has confirmed that Everton’s 10-point penalty for breaching profitability and sustainability (PSR) rules has been reduced.

The Toffees were hit with a points deduction last November after they recorded a loss of more than £105 million over a three-year period, ending in 2022.

However, an independent appeals board has now reduced the points deduction to six points, which means the club now has 25 points in the standings and moved up to 15th.

A Premier League statement published on Monday read: “Everton FC is appealing the sanction imposed against it on nine grounds, each of which relates to the sanction and not the fact of the breach, which the club acknowledges.

“Two of the nine reasons were upheld by the Appeal Board, which has changed the original point reduction of 10 to six.

“These revised sanctions have an immediate impact and the Premier League table will be updated today to reflect this.”

Everton are still facing a second PSR complaint for breaking the rules during the assessment period to the end of last season.

Sean Dyche’s side, along with Nottingham Forest who were also charged with one offence, have been referred to an independent commission and, if found guilty, could be given further points deductions.

Manchester City will be monitoring the situation closely, with Pep Guardiola’s side the subject of an FFP investigation.

Last year, the Premier League revealed that City had been charged with more than 115 alleged FFP offenses covering a nine-year period between the 2009/10 and 2017/18 seasons.

City have previously said they deny the allegations against them and it is reported that an independent panel may hear evidence from the Premier League and Man City regarding the alleged offenses later this autumn.

However, there are suggestions that a conclusion from this investigation is not expected to be reached until the end of the 2024/25 season.

According to Premier League rules, if Man City is proven guilty of the alleged violation, the club faces the possibility of having points deducted or even the threat of being expelled from the Premier League.
