Eva Lys Returns to WTA Tour with Strong Performance in Dubai, German Tennis Aces Shine

After narrowly failing to qualify for the Australian Open 2024, Eva Lys has now returned to the WTA tour in Dubai. In the first match after her break, the German tennis hope immediately made an exclamation mark. Three other German tennis aces also reached the semi-finals.

Eva Lys can still hope to reach the main field in Dubai. In the first round of qualifying, the number 152 in the world rankings brought down the Romanian Jaqueline Cristian (number 72 in the world rankings), who was well ahead of her, with 3:6, 7:6 and 6:2.

In a close game, both players managed a whopping seven breaks, but Lys still had a slight advantage in service and, with 106, scored eight points more than her opponent.

In the duel for a place in the main field, the French Clara Burel (number 46 in the world rankings) is now waiting for the 22-year-old German.

Meanwhile, Laura Siegemund (number 90 in the world rankings) has already been eliminated, losing 6:4, 1:6 and 2:6 to the American Bernarda Pera (number 83 in the world rankings) after winning the first round. Curious: Siegemund only managed her own service once after the first set.

At the W15 tournament in Monastir, the winning streak of Selina Dal (number 758 in the world rankings) ended, as she lost to the 17-year-old Chinese Yufei Ren (number 535 in the world rankings) 6:4, 4:6 and 1:6.

Qualifier Antonia Schmidt continues to win

Antonia Schmidt, however, celebrated her eighth success in the tenth game in 2024 in Nakhon Si Thammarat (Thailand). The 22-year-old number 567 in the tennis world, who fought her way through the qualification at the W35 tournament, clearly defeated the number seven seeded Japanese Naho Sato (number 395 in the world rankings) 6:1 and 6:4 and was in superior to all important statistics.

In the semifinals, Schmidt will now face local hero Peangtarn Plipuech (number 496 in the world rankings).

Max Rehberg at the M15 tournament in Oberhaching and Nastasja Schunk at the W75 event in Altenkirchen are also in the semi-finals.

Schunk (number 792 in the world rankings), who is gradually fighting her way back to the top after a serious injury last year, easily defeated the Austrian Sinja Kraus (number 177 in the world rankings) 6:1 and 6:2 and impressively showed why she is capable.

Like Schunk, 20-year-old Rehberg (number 490 in the world rankings) had significantly more trouble against the Croatian Mili Poljicak (number 866 in the world rankings), but prevailed after more than two hours with 4:6, 6:4 and 6:4 .

Exciting from a German perspective: Rehberg will face Timo Gentzsch (number 560 in the world rankings) in the semi-finals. A DTB representative will definitely be in the final at the home game.
