Emotions Run High: Eintracht Frankfurt-Union Match Highlights the Passion of Football

Football means something when you win or lose. Both for players and supporters. Eintracht Frankfurt-Union was proof of this on Thursday evening.

After Union secured qualification for the eighth finals in the Conference League on Thursday evening in the witch’s cauldron of Eintracht Frankfurt (1-2), dozens of excited home supporters tried to enter the visitors’ section with traveling Brussels fans.

As UEFA regulations require, visiting fans are only allowed to leave the stadium once the home fans have left in large numbers. This was to avoid direct confrontations between both groups of supporters afterwards. But while the Union fans quietly waited for their moment, there were some hotheads from Frankfurt who could not accept the defeat and wanted to make that clear in the visitors’ section. The images below show how dozens of people – despite multiple interventions from the stadium speaker to remain seated – attempt to enter the away section.

Fortunately, thanks to the adequate action of the police forces, they did not succeed.

Mad joy in the Union dressing room

Better, sportier images took place in the Unionists’ dressing room. Starring in the festivities? An insanely pumped-up Cameron Puertas, the scorer of the great opening goal.

This afternoon around 1:30 PM, Union – and Club Brugge – will meet their opponent in the eighth finals of this Conference League.
