The referees will wear t-shirts with patches Emirates Airlinespositioned directly below the NBA logo, starting fromNBA All-Star Game of February 18th.
This type of collaboration represents only part of the sponsorship launch for Emirates which, with a multi-year agreement, officially becomes the global airline partner of the NBA. Additionally, Emirates will sponsor the NBA in-season tournament, which will be renamed Emirates NBA Cup.
This move comes at a time when NBA viewership is up compared to last year and at a time when referees are being shown on television much more frequently than in the past. The goal of the NBA is to replicate the success achieved with the players’ jerseys, which with the inclusion of sponsorships have generated millions of dollars.
