Down Syndrome National Basketball Team Raises Awareness in Çanakkale with Exhibition Match

ÇANAKKALE (AA) – In Çanakkale, the Down Syndrome National Basketball Team played a basketball match with the city protocol to raise awareness about Down syndrome.

Continuing its preparations with the motto “Barrier-Free Campus” at Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University (ÇOMÜ) Terzioğlu Campus before the World Championship, the Down Syndrome National Basketball Team continues its training at Naim Süleymanoğlu Sports Hall.

Within the framework of the team’s programs, in cooperation with the university and the Turkish Special Athletes Sports Federation, the athletes played basketball in accordance with the city protocol to draw attention to Down syndrome.

ÇOMÜ Rector Prof. Dr. In his speech before the match, Cüneyt Erenoğlu said that they were happy to host the national team at their university.

Erenoğlu said, “Our federation representatives provide great support. We came together in such a beautiful event by ÇOMÜ Faculty of Sports Sciences and the sports union of our university. Our aim is to raise awareness. This will be an exhibition match. Our opponent is extremely strong. They are ready to take the field. “We saw this power in them.” said.

National Team Head Coach and Down Syndrome National Basketball Team Responsible Ufuk Bulut explained that they are working to promote special athletes all over the world, especially in Europe.

Emphasizing that it is necessary to start working locally for this, Bulut said, “Çanakkale has been a starting point for us. Our children are in great spirits. They are excitedly waiting to go on the field. I would like to thank everyone who supported us.” he said.

After the match, the teams presented each other with commemorative medals.
