Does Luca Brecel have his mojo back? He plays his first quarter-final as world champion

Luca Brecel has recorded two clear victories in one day at the Welsh Open snooker. First the world champion beat former world champion Graeme Dott 4-1, then he defeated Tom Ford with the same figures. It brings him to a quarter-final of a ranking tournament as world champion for the first time.

After yesterday’s 4-0 against Joe O’Connor, Luca Brecel also reached a high level against Graeme Dott, the 2006 world champion.

After a miss by the Scot, the current world champion immediately struck mercilessly with a century (101). He then won the second frame with an 82-point break.

With a beautiful transition from yellow to green, Brecel continued to entertain the crowd: 3-0 for the Belgian.

After a wrong assessment on a snooker, Dott was able to save the honor in the fourth frame with a century (105).

In the fifth frame Brecel decided with beautiful snooker and a break of 75 points.

In the 1/8th finals against the Englishman Tom Ford (WR-18), Brecel continued his momentum. He fell behind 1-0, but then he dictated the law.

“I’m happy with this,” said Brecel after his two victories in one day. “The further I get, the stronger my focus.”

In his first quarter-final at a ranking tournament as world champion, Brecel will face Marco Fu (WR-86) or Martin O’Donnell (WR-76) on Friday.
