Matthijs de Ligt’s situation at Bayern Munich is one to keep an eye on, Fabrizio Romano wrote on X on Monday morning. According to reports, the Dutch centre-back would be very disappointed after his reserve role in the lost match against Bayer Leverkusen (3- 0).

Against the current leader, De Ligt had to sit on the bench again. Because Kim Min-jae was active with South Korea in the Asian Cup, the Dutchman temporarily had a permanent base in Bavaria in January.

For example, De Ligt played ninety minutes against Borussia Mönchengladbach in the game before the punishment against Leverkusen. In that match, the former Ajax player helped his team to a 3-1 victory with a goal.

Against Leverkusen, however, Thomas Tuchel opted for a team containing three central defenders. De Ligt was not one of them. Dayot Upamecano, Min-jae and Eric Dier appeared at the kick-off, while De Ligt took a seat on the reserve bench.

Top fit

After that match, transfer market expert Florian Plettenberg wrote on X that provided everyone is fit at Bayern, De Ligt is not a basic customer ‘despite his good performances’. According to the German journalist from Sky Sport, he is not happy with the current situation.

When BILD asked De Ligt after the match against Leverkusen why he did not appear at the kick-off for the first time since the match against VfL Wolfsburg on December 20, De Ligt could not answer.

The German newspaper then asked whether he was fit enough to start. “Top fit,” De Ligt replied briefly. According to reports, De Ligt, who usually has no problem with a press talk, apologized to the journalists and was ‘visibly frustrated’.

Manchester United

A transfer for the dissatisfied De Ligt cannot be ruled out in the summer, writes Plettenberg. A possible departure was also discussed in the winter, but it did not happen at the time, partly due to his temporarily acquired starting position.

But with his response, De Ligt had the tabloid press in England working overtime again. The Daily Mirror immediately used the short interview to transfer the Dutchman to Manchester United.

“Now that De Ligt appears to be the fourth option at the center back at Bayern, people in Manchester will be watching the situation with above-average interest,” writes the English medium. Because the departure of Victor Lindelöf, Harry Maguire and Raphaël Varane does not seem out of the question, De Ligt would be offered a free path to a reunion with Erik ten Hag, according to the Daily Mirror.
