Dayro Moreno says he is going for Víctor Aristizábal’s scoring record – Colombian Soccer – Sports

Dayro Moreno is getting closer to breaking a historic League record: the Once Caldas attacker scored this Wednesday against Millonarios in El Campín and reached 223 goals in Colombian professional football.

A penalty goal in the 77th minute allowed Dayro to be just one goal shy of the mark held by Colombian-Argentine Sergio Galván Rey since 2011. But the 38-year-old striker born in Chicoral wants much more.

Moreno is third on the list of historical Colombian scorers, including those achieved abroad. With his goal this Tuesday, he reached 335 in his career, not counting two that he scored in the strange promotion tournament of 2002, in which Dimayor mixed the B teams with the reserves of the first-class squads. division.

Colombia’s all-time top scorer is Víctor Hugo Aristizábal, who scored 348 goals in his career. And very close is Radamel Falcao García, with 347. Dayro wants to continue on.

“We are going after Aristizábal and behind Falcao, so they know too,” said Once Caldas coach Hernán Darío Herrera. “I think that with what he is doing, we are close, he is not that far away either. “You have two years left, right?” added the coach.

Dayro responded with a laugh: “No, teacher, three!”, and added: “To the scorers, respect, I have always had respect for my colleagues. We know that here in Colombia there are many scorers, that is not a secret. I can name 20 or 30, and they are all big. I work for what is mine, and I am going to look for that record, and as the teacher said, I am also going for Aristizábal.”

Moreno appreciated the work of Herrera, the coaching staff and his teammates to continue in the race for the historic mark. “This is the result of the coaching staff, the physical trainer, that we have formed in the team. They all work for the same situation. If I take great care of myself in everything, in food, which is the most important thing, it keeps you going,” he said.

Once Caldas’ next match will be this Friday, against Deportivo Cali in Palmaseca, curiously, one of the stadiums in which Dayro has never scored goals. The other is the Sierra Nevada, from Santa Marta.
