Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev Join Carlos Alcaraz for Laver Cup 2024

Carlos Alcaraz already knows who two of his teammates will be for the next edition of the Laver Cup 2024, which will be held next September in Berlin, the same city that will host the Euro Cup final. The Russian Daniil Medvedev and the German Alexander Zverev will accompany the Spaniard in this new edition of the European team in their fight to win the traditional tournament again.

The Spaniard will debut in the next edition as part of the European team, but he will be accompanied by two experienced tennis players who already know what it is to win this tournament. The Russian won the Boston 2021 edition, while the German has been part of the European victories in Prague 2017, Chicago 2018, Geneva 2019 and also, like Medvedev, in Boston 2021.

“I am very excited to return to the Laver Cup. The atmosphere is always electric and that the Laver Cup is played in Germany, for me it is an experience that I have to live once in a lifetime. The World team has won the last two Laver Cups, so we are very motivated to bring the title back to Europe and I hope that, with the support of the fans, we can achieve it at home,” said Zverev.

“For me, the most exciting thing about the Laver Cup is the team spirit, because playing in team tournaments is something very rare in tennis. Having Carlos and Sascha on the team will help us a lot because they are two of the best tennis players in the world and I am very excited to lead the European team back to the path of victory,” Daniil confessed.

The European team, captained by Bjorn Borg, aspires to compose a sufficiently powerful group, with the aim of making up for the defeats in London 2022 and Vancouver 2023. “The team is very motivated to win the Laver Cup in Berlin. With Daniil, Sascha and Carlos in the team, I think we have an excellent chance of it happening. The boys have had an incredible start to the year and we have a very strong half of the lineup. “I am excited to have these champions on the team for 2024,” confessed the team captain.

This traditional competition was created in honor of an Australian tennis legend, Rod Laver, and was first held in September 2017. This annual event aims to commemorate the long and rich history of tennis through a competition that unites players of different generations and nationalities.

Two teams are formed (Europe and rest of the world), made up of six players. They compete in a series of matches over three days that include singles and doubles meets. Every year it is celebrated in a different city around the world. The first team to reach 13 points wins the Laver Cup. However, in the event of a hypothetical tie at twelve, at the end of the last day, a decisive doubles match will be played to determine the winner.
