CB Rodgers, who has been prohibited, claims that he placed bets on behalf of others.
Reworded: “This will be the most challenging aspect, especially because my son shares my exact name,” Rodgers expressed. “He may casually Google his name like I did as a child, and unfortunately, he will also come across the negativity associated with me.”

In 2016, Rodgers graduated from high school at a weight of only 140 pounds. However, he was able to secure a starting position as a cornerback during his first year at the University of Massachusetts.
“I put in a lot of effort and dedication to reach this position, so I won’t compromise my integrity by purposely allowing someone to score on me for a small bet. That goes against my values.”
The quarterback expressed that receiving the call informing him that his beloved team was releasing him was not something he had hoped for. It was a painful moment, especially since he was with his family at the store and had to deliver the news to them while in the car.
Due to legal concerns, Rodgers refused to disclose the names of the individuals for whom he claims to have made bets.
“I also had doubts,” Rodgers stated in an interview with ESPN. “But I believed I wouldn’t be caught or face consequences.”
“I was simply trying to assist my friends and family, but at the time it was not legal in Florida and it was legal in Indiana,” Rodgers stated in an interview with ESPN.
Rodgers has had to face doubters and difficult challenges throughout his life and football career. In June 2013, his father, Craig Devon Rodgers, was fatally shot by a detective from the Bradenton, Florida police department during a confrontation that arose from a domestic dispute and reported abduction.
Rodgers acknowledged that he is aware of the natural queries that may arise when examining the causes of his suspension, such as whether he has ever influenced the result of a game due to a wager.
According to Rodgers, he made bets using his online sports betting account, including smaller bets and a ,000 prop bet. These bets were placed for individuals residing in Florida, where online sports betting was still prohibited at the time.
On June 29, Rodgers was banned for breaking the NFL’s rules on gambling. On that very day, he was released from the Colts team.
Subsequently, the consequence for a player placing bets on their own team was heightened to a two-year ban.
According to Rodgers, he had never engaged in gambling until the span of 5-6 months when he claims to have made over 100 bets for other individuals. He also considers the suspension to be a fortunate turn of events in many aspects.
When the Colts chose him in the 2020 NFL draft with the 211th pick, he only weighed 170 pounds. His quickness as a corner and kick returner, as shown by his 4.28 second 40-yard dash at his pro day, convinced the Colts to take a chance on him.
Jeff Miller, the executive vice president of communications for the NFL, stated that it is our duty to spread knowledge to as many individuals as possible in order to prevent any misunderstandings about the rules.
Shaquille O’Neal shared, “I noticed it scrolling across the bottom of the screen. My initial concern was, ‘Is he alright?’ He had a promising future with the Colts, it was within his reach, and then suddenly…”
Rodgers was questioned about his decision to potentially risk losing the 0,000 he was scheduled to receive for the 2023-24 season.
The Philadelphia Eagles added Rodgers to their team in August and put him on the reserve/suspended list. He will not be able to request reinstatement from the league until after the Super Bowl.
If another person experienced something similar to the gambling suspension, it is likely that they would become extremely upset. However, since I have already gone through the worst, nothing can truly break me again.
The NFL provides yearly education to its players on the various regulations regarding sports betting. It is strictly prohibited for players to place bets on NFL games, visit sportsbooks during the season, or make any type of bets while at team facilities or events. Educational videos and in-person sessions are provided to teams to ensure players are familiar with the league’s policy. It is expected that all players are aware of and adhere to these rules.
“I believe that the passing of my father in 2013 has shaped me into the person I am today,” stated Rodgers. “I have faced some of the toughest challenges and emerged stronger.”
Rodgers acknowledged that he was aware of the rules and was not supposed to do it. He accepted the consequences that came with his actions.
Rodgers confirmed to ESPN that the ,000 report is accurate, but clarified that he did not make the report from his own device. He also admitted that the reports of to bets were accurate, but they were mostly for fun and involved placing outrageous parlays with a small amount of money. These bets were never taken seriously and were not expected to have a significant impact on his life.
At the time, Ballard released a statement emphasizing the importance of maintaining the integrity of the game. He also stated that the Colts will continue to educate their players, coaches, and staff on the existing policies and the severe consequences that may result from violating them.
The individual revealed that he was aware of the upcoming suspension for several months. He first learned about the investigation from his agent in late February or early March and chose to keep the information private. However, his mother, Kelly O’Neal, only found out about the suspension in June through an ESPN report.
He has been able to relax on Sundays like a typical football fan, joining together with loved ones at his house to watch NFL games on multiple screens. He mentioned that he has had the chance to bond with his two one-year-old kids, Maliyah and Isaiah Jr.
The NFL suspended Rodgers after finding him guilty of multiple violations. He had gambled at the Colts’ facility and even worse, had placed bets on his own team. According to league regulations at the time, this warranted a one-year suspension.
Isaiah Rodgers Sr., a former cornerback for the Indianapolis Colts, recently spoke out for the first time since being suspended by the NFL for betting on his team. He claims that although bets were placed using his account, they were not made for his own benefit, but for others.John Barr, ESPN.comFeb 1, 2024, 02:15 PM ET
During an ESPN segment on sports gambling, Rodgers discussed his bets, suspension, and how he has been coping with being away from the game for the entire season.
While out shopping with his family near his residence in Tampa, Rodgers received a call from Colts GM Chris Ballard informing him that he had been released.
On his social media platforms, Rodgers expressed remorse for his actions and acknowledged his mistakes. He admitted to his wrongdoings and accepted full accountability, acknowledging that he disappointed those close to him.1 Related
