Czech Athletes Ready to Compete at World Indoor Championships in Glasgow 2024

The Presidium of the Czech Athletics Association approved the nomination for the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow, Scotland (March 1-3), where 23 Czech male and female athletes will travel.

The traditional support of indoor international summits is the shot putter Tomas Stanek. He will strive for his sixth precious metal from the representative peak under the roof in Glasgow. Glasgow will be his fifth indoor world championship. From this event, he still has a bronze from Birmingham 2018 in his medal collection. In addition, he has four HME medals at home, one of which he won in 2019 in the very arena where the global highlight of this season will take place in a few days.

As for the number of participations at HMS, the hurdler is also on the same page Petr Svoboda. He made his debut at the championship in Valencia in 2008. He reached his peak two years later in Doha, Qatar, where he finished in fourth place. In each of his previous four appearances, he reached at least the semi-finals. At 39, he will be the most experienced member of the Czech team. He then represents the next generation of Czech hurdlers Stephen Schubert, who also managed to qualify and will be competing for the first time at a major international event among adults. The second participation at HMS in this discipline awaits Helena Jiranová.

We will have a quadruple representation in the 400 meter races. Among the women, the Czech colors will be defended by last year’s HME finalists and bronze medalists from the relay mix at the World Championships in Budapest Lada Vondrová s Teresa Petržilková. This is the third HMS for both. Vondrová already has two individual starts and one relay. Petržilková was also a member of the women’s relay team in Birmingham 2018 and made her individual debut two years ago. He will run in the men’s category Matej Krsekwho competes at HMS for the first time and Michal Desenský.

There is no shortage of nominations in technical disciplines Radek Juška, who was tenth at HMS in Portland 2016 and seventh in Birmingham 2018. Stickman Amálie Švábíková she finished ninth in Belgrade two years ago and will now make her second start at the World Indoor Championships. It’s a high riser Jan Štefela will present themselves at this event for the first time.

However, there will be even more debutants in individual disciplines. Among the heptathletes, they will compete for the first time in the world competition at the representative event Ondřej Kopecký a Vilém Stráský. In the 1500 meter run, he stands on the starting line Filip Sasínek. At the age of 60, only a 20-year-old fresh national record holder will hit the blocks Karolina Manasova and an even younger junior European champion will run the eight Jakub Dudycha. However, he will not be the only Czech midfielder in Glasgow. He is also nominated Filip Šnejdr, who will travel on his third HMS. At the first one in Birmingham 2018, he was a member of the quarter relay. Two years ago in Belgrade, he already represented on the 800 meters track.

Both quarter relays will also run. In the men’s category, Matěje Krska will be joined by other experienced fighters Pavel Maslák, Patrik Šorm, Vít Müller a Michal Desenský. In addition to Lady Vondrová and Tereza Petržilková, the women’s line-up also includes Marcela Pírková, Lourdes Gloria Manuel a Terezia Táborskáwho at eighteen will be the youngest member of the expedition.
