Colombia secures 34 spots for Paris 2024 Olympics and eyes Paralympic success

The insured representatives belong to athletics, football, swimming, boxing, equestrian, wrestling, gymnastics, archery and sailing.

Luis Felipe Uribe filled the national sport with joy, after getting Colombia’s 34th place at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The 22-year-old from Risralda, obtained his ticket to the jousts, after qualifying for the final of the 3 meters in diving at the World Swimming Championships in Doha, Qatar.

Luis Felipe, who has had an outstanding Olympic cycle, was fourth in the 3-meter diving semifinal, with 440.75 points. The Chinese Siyi Xie was first in the test, with 518.00 points, while his compatriot Zongyuan Wang was second. The Mexican Osmar Olvera obtained the third place.

Of the 34 places that Colombia has so far, 11 are nominal and 23 numerical (teams), which are distributed among nine National Sports Federations: athletics, soccer, swimming, boxing, equestrian, wrestling, gymnastics, archery and sailing.

The first 18 spots, of a numerical nature, were reached by the Colombian Women’s Soccer Team, which obtained the runner-up position in the Copa América 2022. For its part, the first nominal spot for the country was won by the Olympic medalist Lorena Arenas, silver in Tokyo 2020, and who will add his fourth Olympic Games, after being present in London 2012, Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020.

The 2024 Paralympics, a golden opportunity

Paris 2024 also appears to be a great opportunity for Colombian paraathletes, who will seek to improve the mark achieved in Tokyo 2020, where the national delegation obtained 37th place, adding 24 medals: 3 gold, 7 silver and 14 bronze.

So far, the country has three nominal places, with María Teresa Restrepo (Sports Shooting), María Mónica Daza (Archery) and Héctor Ramírez (Archery). Likewise, in numerical places, there are already 15 places obtained in athletics (8 women and 7 men), 5 places for swimming (2 women and 3 men) and the Soccer Team for the blind.
