Chiefs Remove Jerick McKinnon from Injured Reserve Ahead of Super Bowl LVIII

The Kansas City Chiefs have removed running back Jerick McKinnon from injured reserve ahead of Sunday’s Super Bowl LVIII against the San Francisco 49ers.

McKinnon’s status remains uncertain and a decision will be made before the game on his availability according to Ian Rapoport of NFL NETWORK.

McKinnon had been sidelined since Week 15 with a groin injury.

In 12 games this season, he has accumulated a total of 252 yards and scored five touchdowns.

The Chiefs also recalled defensive lineman Mike Pennel from the practice squad and placed star guard Joe Thuney on injured reserve.

For the 49ers, defensive linemen Alex Barrett and TY McGill are promoted from the practice squad. Kalia Davis, tackle, is still bothered by an ankle injury since December and will not be in the game on Sunday.
