Pochettino made some courageous lineup choices, leaving players like Thiago Silva on the bench – a few hours after the Brazilian’s wife apologized for an outburst on social media in which he asked for ‘changes’ at the club – and Raheem Sterling, and the result gave him reason. Villa, fourth in the league, had to suffer elimination from the FA Cup after that in the Carabao Cup and now Unay Emery’s team will have to focus on the race for a place in the Champions League and success in the Conference League.
