Charlotte Hornets Narrow Down Candidates for New Front Office Boss

Charlotte is looking for a new boss for her front office. Following the resignation of Mitch Kupchak as the team’s president of basketball operations, the North Carolina organization is working to find the right candidate, something for which it is carrying out a meticulous selection process.

Without there being a sure election for now, journalist Marc Stein points out that there are three main candidates to take over the position of general manager of the Hornets: Matt Lloyd (executive of the Minnesota Timberwolves), Trajan Langdon (GM of the New Orleans Pelicans ) and Jeff Peterson (GM assist at Brooklyn Nets).

Starting with Lloyd, he is Tim Connelly’s vice president of basketball operations in Minnesota. He is undoubtedly a man of the boss’s full confidence in the Timberwolves; So much so that she was one of the first hires Connelly made when he took over his position. Previously he was also with the Orlando Magic and Chicago Bulls.

Regarding Langdon, this is the number 2 of the New Orleans Pelicans after David Griffin and has already been part of other processes to take control of a main office in the NBA. In 2020 he declined to remain on the Sacramento Kings’ options list and in 2023 he interviewed for the position of president of the Washington Wizards. In addition to his resume, Rod Boone of Charlotte Observer He has also identified him as one of the favorites for the job in Charlotte.

Finally, Peterson has also been named in several reports; However, Stein notes that the Brooklyn Nets have a strong interest in retaining Peterson as one of Sean Marks’ top lieutenants and could offer him a promotion and/or raise. It should be noted that Peterson was in Atlanta’s front office when one of the Hornets’ new co-owners, Rick Schnall, was part of the Hawks’ ownership group.
